Michelle’s Profile
II’ve always believed that great photography isn’t about expensive gear—it’s about vision, creativity, and heart. I started taking photos long before social media and smartphones changed the way we capture moments. In 2004, with nothing but an entry-level point-and-shoot camera, I began capturing everything from dynamic street rallies and colourful festivals to luxury resorts and hotels. In 2005, I was featured in a full-page cover spread for a special photography supplement in one of the Philippines’ leading broadsheets, and before long, I started shooting for high-end magazines and corporate clients. I still keep my old portfolio website up for nostalgia’s sake—it’s a time capsule from the days when 800×600 was the standard screen resolution. The content now appears tiny on modern screens, but it’s a reminder of where it all began and I love looking back at the moments that shaped my journey.
Photography has taken me on an incredible path, shaping both my visual and academic pursuits. With a degree in Communications and a Master’s in Environmental Management, I’ve worked across both creative and educational roles — mentoring in seminars and workshops, leading travel photography expeditions (1, 2, 3), and teaching photography and environmental subjects at the college level from 2007-2013. Each experience has strengthened my passion for storytelling through imagery.
Having lived in both Vancouver, where I was born, and the Philippines, where I was raised, I’ve developed a unique perspective that continues to shape my work. In 2015, I was recognized as one of Vancouver’s Top Baby and Family Photographers by Vancouvermom.ca, and and in 2017, I established Studio Mimo, a beautiful natural-light portrait studio in the Philippines specializing in maternity, newborn, baby and family portrait sessions.
As of 2025, I continue to evolve, drawing inspiration from the vibrant city of Vancouver alongside my sweet, beloved poodle, Blingbling. My love for photography is more than a profession; it’s a lifelong pursuit of telling visual stories, preserving memories, fostering connection, and always having that deep appreciation for the art of seeing and capturing beautiful imagery.
